I thought faerie magic couldn’t affect virgins.

That’s generally true, direct faerie spells have little effect against virgins. That is slightly less true of indirect magic, and even less so with Sir Thane, whose curse seems to be exceptionally potent (and full of side effects).
(It’s also a very, very old strip, and I think it was the artist who wrote it. I thought it was funny, but yeah, it’s not canon.)
