This kind of things happen in real life, to real women and even young girls. Hell, despite being a guy, it happened to me a little while a teenager, and it affected a lot of my body image and issues with desire and sexuality.
I understand the whole thanified body thing, but still, having her like being groped and all by strangers is, IMO, sending a very wrong message.
Even the faerie speech: Having problems with this behavior has nothing to do with being stuck-up, or even a proper princess. The problem lies with the men doing this, not with the women that object. Really, picture a guy staring at your cock, making lewd comments, groping you… would you like it?
But in all reality – there ARE some people in the real world who would get a kick out of that situation. There ARE people who sexually enjoy being treated like animals, objects, or chattel. That doesn’t make it okay for anyone to treat them as such without permission, of course.
Some men would certainly enjoy another person (gender depending on sexual preference) staring, making suggestive comments, or groping – arguably more men would enjoy such than women, I would imagine.
But the fact is: if Heather is aroused by being objectified and subjected to inappropriate touching, she isn’t alone.
I don’t find it objectionable that she feels that way, but unless she’s wearing a sign that invites such treatment, the customers’ actions ARE objectionable.
I imagine that there could be a place where such actions are actually sanctioned and that employees (perhaps like Heather) are aware-of and approving-of actions that would otherwise be unconscionable and inappropriate.
Jaycee
Completely agreed on all points.
Some people in RL DO get a kick out of those situations. And unless they ask (or give permission) to be treated this way, then it’s non-consensual, and therefore reprehensible.
In fact, I recently had a fascinating exchange with such a person, and it was clear that while it turned her on as a fantasy, it wouldn’t be something she’d want to happen against her will. And it’s not the first time I hear of such fantasies in women–which in NO WAY makes it right to inflict these fantasies upon them in real life without their consent. I cannot emphasize that point enough.
And yes, there are places where these kinds of actions are okay: they’re called strip clubs. Well, over here in Montreal anyway. 😉

Strip clubs and touching shouldn’t go in the same sentence until you want to be beaten up by the bouncers.
Here at least.
MidnightDStroyer
Strip clubs are venues in which it’s already explicit that the dancers DON’T want to be handled…Doing so denies their consent, so the lawful punishment for it IS justified.
Anything going on between CONSENTING ADULTS is okay…Too many people seem to forget the part about consent.
Jaycee
You’re right, unsolicited groping isn’t allowed even in strip clubs. But at least here (Montreal), you can get full-contact dances, so the problem is removed by making it legal. (The girl still has to be willing, though.)
The comic is entirely fictional & imaginary, but it DOES bring up an issue that concerns people in real life. There’s some truth to the phrase “art is a reflection of life.”
So I don’t agree that the comic has been derailed at all.
Jaycee
Personally, having these conversations is one of the perks of doing this comic. While the comic is crass and caters to some niche “perversions,” I like that we can have serious conversations about real-world issues.

Yeah, that is one of the nice things I like about this comic is that there are discussions about these sorts of things.

She’s going to stay confused until she realizes that her loneliness was her,.. and her running from things she could enjoy are HER and her lack of friends is HER.

If you bait your breath in the hopes of catching something, You’d better hope you catch some air; people need to breathe in order to survive, ya’ know.

Wonder… when Heather changes back to her ‘real body’ if we can convince jaycee (or the fairies) to give her the same bigger, more responsive newbies she now has as the transmogrified nun? “Sometimes, bigger IS better…”

So what, was Heather worried that she was going to jump a customer and felt that was unprofessional or something as the reason why she quit?
TJgalon
wow, interesting.

I don’t get women. I’ve never liked something too much.

I take it you’ve never been clinically addicted to anything, then.
Gallstone
Yeah, the body she’s currently in was Thanified. =_= I’m not surprised that her physical response startled her.
Guesticus
Glad someone else remembered that that body is a Thanified nun’s body
bbo
empathy? About discomfort from sexual exploits? From a fae? What’s going on here?
Gallstone
I suspect either sarcasm, or Heather’s opening up about her horrible feeling of loneliness moved the faerie — a little.
Guesticus
Yeah, sarcasm morethanlikely
Random guy
Uncomfortable with this.

Agreed, in real life, this would be contemptuous behavior.
With regards to the strip itself and the message it sends, I’ll direct you to my post on the topic a few days ago: https://www.bloomingfaeries.com/blog/respecting-women/

From the looks of it, Heather agrees with you: she didn’t like it because she was starting to like it too much

And that folks, is how you completely derail something not meant to be taken seriously in the first place.

Using (strike) tag, everything has lines through it
Jaycee
I’m not seeing that. What browser & platform are you using?

Ooo, good point, it seems to only be happening on IE7

The only practical use I’ve ever found for any version of IE was to download Firefox for use…
