Bloomin’ Reality!

What’s This?

Let me start with a word of warning: if you choose to read this section, the masks all drop off. There is no Jaycee character, no faeries, no pretense of any fantasy. It’s all about the cold, hard reality of publishing webcomics, my REAL personal life and how it relates to Bloomin’ Faeries!, and the nitty gritty details of this business. If you’re interested in getting started as a webcomic publisher yourself and have no artistic talent, this might be useful to you.

But be warned, this isn’t written for your entertainment as much as to log my publishing adventures. Read at your own risks…

Part I: How it Began

I’d been reading webcomics for a good bit of time before it even occurred to me that I could have my own. I have no artistic talent to speak of, but I know I can line up words. I’m also relatively organized and methodical, and I’m pretty good at problem-solving. I’m also a bit of a closet pervert, and I’d been toying for many years with some erotic mind-control stories I wanted to write. I just didn’t have the discipline to do it, so it never really got done. It really never went anywhere until late 2009, where I found myself in a unique situation (expatriated in another country), with a fair bit of spare time, perverse ideas, and disposable income. (Those are good ingredients if you want to start an adult webcomic.)

I was already a big fan of webcomics such as LICD and Evil Inc., when one day I stumbled upon Exiern. That was the webcomic that changed a lot for me. There was this guy who could draw a little, but who’d instead chosen to partner up with an artist and focus on the writing part. His stuff was pretty sexy, and his business model seemed to work. I figured, if he’d done it, there was no reason I couldn’t do it myself. Little did I know what I was getting myself into…

So the first step was to figure out WHAT I was going to write about. I needed a name.

But that’s a story for another time.
